Women's Rowing Excels on Day One of Knecht Cup Regatta

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Drexel women's rowing team enjoyed a strong day on the Cooper River as all of its boats advanced to the top level finals of their events in Saturday's action at the Knecht Cup Regatta.

The Varsity 8+ of Natalie Cleri (coxswain), Taylor Powell (stroke), Mollie Knoff, Julianna Rogers, Hayley McKeever, Kirby Droogan, Rita Keefer, Giavanna Hunt and Morgan Van Dexter (bow), competing in Jim & Toni Downey won its heat with a time of 6:51.56, the fastest time of all the preliminary races before clocking a 6:43.25 to advance to Sunday's Grand Final.

In the 2V8+ race saw Belen Rosales (coxswain), Sophia Lamb (stroke), Julia Porro, Ariana Townsend, Rachel Civan, Lexie Hain, Hannah Walseth, Katie Ernst and Kayla Driscoll row Alleva XVII to a heat win with a time of 7:10.58, besting CAA foes Connecticut and Eastern Michigan in the process.

Getting the day started for the Dragons and competing in Marci, the V4+ of Chloe Speciale (coxswain), Anna Kretzer (stroke), Genevieve Rowlands, Avery Panico and Sarah Ghazaz (bow) cross the finish line first in its heat with a 7:51.97 clocking. The 2V4+ of Maddie Depommier (coxswain), Baylor Henry (stroke), Valentina Frusone, Addison Devine and Emily Ellis (bow) top its heat in Diane Corle in a time of 8:22.55.

The finals begin on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
