Women's Rowing Has Best Ever Performance at Knecht Cup Regatta

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Drexel women's rowing team earned a pair of golds and every boat medaled as the Dragons had a standout performance at the Knecht Cup Regatta on Sunday.
The gold medals are just the fourth and fifth ever for the Dragons at this regatta and the first for the Varsity 8+.
The V8+ won by more than three seconds against CAA rival Delaware. Competing in Jim & Toni Downey, Natalie Cleri (coxswain), Taylor Powell (stroke), Mollie Knoff, Julianna Rogers, Hayley McKeever, Kirby Droogan, Rita Keefer, Giavanna Hunt and Morgan Van Dexter (bow) posted a time of 6:50.17 on a humid morning on the Cooper River.
Also winning gold was the 3V8+ as Chloe Minicucci (coxswain), Margaret Dobrenko (stroke), Kira Tracy, Delaney Gellert, Fiona Steele, Sabrina Batdorf, Alexandra Gnoza, Ellen McCallin and Emma Doughty took Cara Fry across the finish line in 7:14.19, more than 12 seconds ahead of Fordham. The time also topped CAA foes Connecticut and Delaware by 20 and 43 seconds, respectively.
Claiming a silver medal was the V4+. Racing in Marci, Chloe Speciale (coxswain), Anna Kretzer (stroke), Genevieve Rowlands, Avery Panico and Sarah Ghazaz (bow) finished in 7:48.17.
Both the 2V8+ and 2V4+ took home bronze medals at the regatta, each beating a conference foe along the way.
Drexel returns to action on Saturday, April 22 when it hosts the Kerr Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River at 10:00 a.m.
