Women's Crew Finishes Strong at Murphy Cup Regatta

The Dragons opened up competition with the varsity four. The Sandra Lee Sheller boat was in lane 5 and led by coxswain Sarah Messenger, with stroke Barbara McKenna, Colleen Delaney, Elisabeth Wagner, and bow Emily Gartland. The team finished first in their heat with a time of 8:57.59, and advanced to finals where they landed fifth place in, 9:49.59.
The freshmen eight raced in the teams second event of the day. The women raced from lane 1 in the Marlene Buckley boat and grabbed an, 8:15.22, second place finish, which sent them to the finals where they took fourth place with a time of 8:54.55. Coxswain Abigail Colasacco led stroke Kendall Wenzke, Lauren Sand, Erin Arnold, Christina Alleva, Emily Doris, Molly Dudrear, Gabriella Salcedo, and bow Jenna O'Toole.
Next up, the second varsity eight took to the water in the Maria Papadakis boat. From lane 2, coxswain Catherine Hamilton led, stroke Olivia Babiec, Elizabeth Campanella, Kayla Wroblesky, Samantha Cowan, Taylor Brady, Alyssa Leahy, Stephanie Thomas, and bow Julie McGlynn. The team took second place, stopping the clock at 7:45.00 and qualified for finals where they grabbed a fourth place finish with a, 8:30.98.
The women's freshmen four "B" took to the water in lane 6. The Dragons were in the Oxholm boat, led by coxswain Samantha Lula, with stroke Corneice White, Anna Mohammad, Chelsea Cohen, and bow Alex Walsh. They managed to take third place with a time of, 10:21.29, and advance to the finals where the grabbed another third place finish in 9:59.82.
The women's freshmen four "A" began heat 2 from lane 2. The team raced to an impressive first place finish in, 9:53.87, and were launched into finals where they came in right behind the freshmen four "B" with a time of, 10:00.45. Coxswain Nupur Parikh led the Dawn Byers boat, with stroke Hannah Devlin, Eugenia Chalbaud-Santeliz, Emma Cardwell, and bow Emma Compton.
The varsity eight boat wrapped up action for the women's team. The Marlene Buckley II boat raced from lane 4 guided by coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Victoria King, Elizabeth Daugherty, Sierra Baca, Marina Forster, Jayme Batcher, Bridget Pfeifer, Amanda Kleuser, and bow Elise Levito. The women captured first place, stopping the clock at 8:16.01. In the varsity eight DI final, the team took fourth in, 8:01.60.
The women will return to the water on Saturday, April 5 when they will take on Bucknell and Duquesne on the Schuykill River.
