Dragons to Face Sacred Heart and No. 6 UConn in Pair of Buckley Field Match-Ups

Philadelphia - The 14th-ranked Drexel field hockey team will host Sacred Heart on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7:00 p.m. before a showdown with No. 6 UConn on Sunday, Sept. 19 at noon. Sunday's game will be a rematch of last season's first round NCAA Tournament game that saw the Dragons shock the Huskies, 3-2, in the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The Dragons enter the match-ups at 2-2 on the season while the Pioneers are 1-5 and the Huskies are 4-1.
The Dragons have split their first four games with both losses coming to Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked in the top 10 nationally. After dropping a 4-2 decision to No. 2 Maryland, Drexel reeled off wins over Saint Joseph's and Ohio University before falling in overtime at No. 10 Duke, 2-1, on Sunday. Three Dragons are tied for the team lead in points as Susan Ciufo has a team-high three goals while Kim Tunell and Elizabeth Koch each have two goals and two assists. Reigning CAA Preseason Player of the Year Christina Mastropaolo has two goals and one assist on the season.
Sacred Heart dropped its first five games of the season before rebounding with a 2-0 victory over Holy Cross. Karly Duven and Stephanie Lazio each have a team-high two goals on the season. Each scored in the Pioneers' triumph over the Crusaders. Kim Stow has played every minute in goal and boasts a .693 save percentage on the season.
UConn enters the game with Drexel having allowed just two total goals in five games. The Huskies opened with victories over Maine, Penn State and Michigan before being stunned by UMass, 1-0, on Sept. 11. UConn bounced back to trounce Albany, 5-0, in the team's most recent game on Sept. 12. Cara Silverman has four goals on the season while Sarah Mansfield has an .889 save percentage and a 0.53 goals against average.
