Box Score
Philadelphia - Drexel Field Hockey scored three first-half goals en route to a 4-0 victory in a non-conference game at Buckley Field. Ashley Santee led the Drexel offense with a career-high two goals while Amanda Fleischut and Brittney Hausman also recorded scores on the day. Jenna Phillips recorded her second shutout of the season as the Dragons improved to 3-2 as they head into their Sunday showdown against No. 6 UConn.
Fleischut put Drexel on the board early as she dribbled in the circle toward the middle and found enough space in front to rifle a shot that zipped into the back of the cage. Santee doubled Drexel's lead after the Dragons were awarded the first penalty corner of the game. Kim Tunell ripped a shot directly off of the stick-stop that was halted by the pads of Pioneers' goalie Kim Stow. The ball rebounded in front where Santee slid the ball into the cage. With less than six minutes left in the first halt, Santee again found the cage after Tunell fired a ball into the area that the junior was able to deflect past Stow.
Drexel controlled the action in the second half as well though the Dragons lone tally of the period came with less than five minutes left in the game. Susan Ciufo dribbled into the circle from the right side of the field and sent a strong pass to the center where Hausman one-timed the ball into the left corner of the cage for her second career goal.
The Dragons outshot their visitors, 29-5, and were awarded 11 penalty corners to the Pioneers' eight. Phillips' lone save of the game came on a breakaway as the sophomore stopped Chelsea Carlson who entered the circle alone with the ball. Stow made nine saves as her record dipped to 1-6 on the season.
Sunday's noon showdown with No. 6 UConn is a rematch of last season's NCAA First Round game that saw the Dragons stun the Huskies, 3-2, in Drexel's first ever NCAA Tournament game.
