PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team conceded a pair of goals in the second half to draw against Philadelphia Soccer 6 rival, La Salle on Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.
La Salle's greatest chance in the first half came in the 40th minute of the match. La Salle was given a penalty kick opportunity and a chance to break open the scoring. However, a sprawling Owen Moore saved the shot and kept the score at 0-0.
Two minutes later, Drexel cashed in on a corner kick on the other end. Morgan Worsfold-Gregg served the ball into the box and found Brian Salvino, who was among the number of Drexel and La Salle players fighting for the ball.
In the 66th minute, Drexel was awarded a free kick from just outside the Explorer's penalty box. Tiago Lima-Bittencourt took the kick and curled the ball around the La Salle defenders and beat the keeper to the left.
Three minutes later, La Salle scored its first goal of the game to pull within one of the Dragons. La Salle then tied the match in the 84th minute. A baseline cross was tapped in to equalize the score at two.
With under a minute to play in the second half, La Salle nearly stuck the game-winning goal, hitting the crossbar and bouncing out of harms way. The match ended with both teams tied at two.
Drexel returns to play on Tuesday, September 16, facing University City neighbor, Penn. Action is slated for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
