PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team was defeated by the Hofstra Pride, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Vidas Field.
In the first matchup of the season, Drexel and Hofstra traded possession and advantages for most of the game. While there were 20 shots between the two teams, six were on target.
While not being able to take a shot in the first half, Drexel started the second half with momentum. The Dragons managed to take all seven of their shots in the second 45 minutes to apply pressure on the Pride. However, none of the shots found their way to the back of the net.
Hofstra scored the lone goal of the game in the 30th minute of the match on a ball that was played into the penalty area. Owen Barnett collided with Drexel keeper Raphael Bartell but managed to poke the ball past the Drexel keeper.
Drexel returns to action on Saturday, October 4 at 7 p.m. The Dragons travel to West Long Branch, N.J. to face the Monmouth Hawks in the second half of conference play.
