Women's Basketball to Play Exhibition Game Against Xavier University of Louisiana

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team is set to host the Xavier University of Louisiana Gold Nuggets to an exhibition game at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Thursday evening. Tip against the Gold Nuggets is set for 6 p.m. and admission to the game is free for all fans.
LAST SEASON
Led by First Team All-CAA honoree Amaris Baker, Drexel clinched the fourth seed of the CAA Tournament and received a double-bye to the CAA Quarterfinals. Baker, who led the CAA in scoring with 17.1 points per game. Joining Baker in the conference's postseason accolades was transfer Deja Evans, who was a defensive powerhouse for the Dragons. Evans finished the season with 66 blocks and propelled herself into the Drexel record book now ranked seventh all-time in blocks. The Dragons defeated La Salle on Nov. 13, 73-40 to earn the program its first victory as members of the Philadelphia Big 5. The home game was one of the 12 home games that Drexel won during the season, marking a 12-2 record inside the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
MEET THE NEWCOMERS
Julia Garcia Roig, Molly Rullo and Bria Watkins will join the program for the 2025-26 season. Garcia Roig is set to play in blue & gold after being a part of Xavier's basketball program for two years. In her freshman season with the Musketeers, she played in 26 games and started in 14, logging 528 minutes and shooting .329 from the field and boasting a .842 free throw percentage. In her sophomore campaign, the Barcelona, Spain native shot 31-for-63 from the field in 30 games played. Garcia Roig was named to the BIG EAST Academic Team in 2023-24 and then named to the CSC Academic All-District Team in 2024-25.
Rullo joins the program after capturing two Pennsylvania state championships with Cardinal O'Hara. The four-year varsity starter finished her high school career as the second leading scorer in O'Hara's history. Rullo was named First Team All-State twice, Second Team All-State once and Third Team All-State after guiding the Lions to a 2022 Philadelphia Catholic League Championship, along with the State Championship in 2024. Rullo also earned three PCL First Team nods and one PCL Second Team honor, along with four First Team All-Delco honors, the 2024 Delco Player of the Year and the 2024 Miss PA Basketball Award. Rullo is the daughter of Jim and Maureen Rullo (Michaels), who are both Drexel alumni. In her time with Drexel, her mother scored 1,220 points between 1997 and 2000, which ranks 18th in program history, along with 385 assists, which is ranked eighth. Rullo's father, Jim, was a crucial piece of the Drexel men's basketball conference finals runs in 1992, 1993 and 1994. He is the single-season record holder in free throw percentage (.883) and helped bring Drexel to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the program's history. Jim also played for two years on Drexel's baseball team.
Bria Watkins joins the program from Webster Schroeder High School in Webster, N.Y. Watkins was a 2023 Class AA New York State Basketball Champion, along with a 2023 and 2025 Monroe County Champion. During her time with the Warriors, Watkins was a two-time First Team All-State selection, the 2025 Monroe County Player of the Year, a three-time First Team All-Greater Rochester selection and a four-time All-County First Team honoree. Watkins is set to join her sister, Mariah Watkins, inside the Daskalakis Athletic Center in 2025-26. The sisters played together on Webster Schroeder's basketball team from 2021-2024. Bria Watkins is second on Webster Schroeder's all-time scorers list.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Dragons begin the season with a two-game road trip. First, Drexel travels across the state to face Pitt in the season-opener on November 3. On Friday, November 7, Drexel travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to play Marist. Action against the Panthers is slated for 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
