LEWISBURG, Pa. – After three unlucky 2-1 results to open the season, the Drexel men's soccer team made that score work to its advantage on Saturday afternoon as the Dragons got their first victory of the season, 2-1 at Bucknell. Philip Burckhardt and Adam Nork each scored their first collegiate goal as Drexel got multiple goals for the first time this year.

Cameron Sanders made five saves to earn the victory in his second start of the year. Chris Donovan led the way with three shots, though the team's leading goal scorer was held without one on net.

Burckhardt got the scoring started late in the first half when he connected in the 39th minute. He took a free kick from just outside the box and curled in a shot inside the near post. The Dragons went into the half up 1-0.

Taking the 1-0 lead has not been the issue for Drexel, which has scored in all five of its games this year and scored first in three of those five now. Keeping that lead, however, has proven problematic as Drexel has stalled at one goal in all four previous games.

That would not be the case on Saturday. Nork gained possession near the top of the box in the 73rd minute and made the most of it, working inside and scoring to make it a 2-0 game and give Drexel a multi-goal lead for the first time this year.

The extra goal would prove critical when Bucknell got on the board just seven minutes later, cutting Drexel's lead in half with just over 10 minutes to play. The Bison, in fact, would finish having taken one more shot than the Dragons, 12-11, and six shots on goal just like Drexel. However, Sanders and the Drexel defense kept them off the board down the stretch as the Dragons claimed their first win of the year.

The Dragons will look to make it two in a row and build momentum heading into a Colonial Athletic Association stretch on Tuesday evening when they host George Mason in the last of three straight non-conference games. That contest kicks off at 6 p.m.
