Women's Crew Earns Second Overall Finish at CAA Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Coming off of the team's third consecutive Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta title, Drexel Crew's women finished second overall - their best finish in the seven year history of the event - at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships Sunday on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
The Dragons improved on their third place finish from a year ago, when they finished behind both Northeastern and Buffalo. Northeastern won for the fifth time in seven years.
Drexel's varsity eight placed second for the silver medal in the Marlene Buckley II boat with a time of 6:41.083, less than three seconds behind Northeastern's 6:38.429. The varsity eight won the bronze medal at last weekend's Dad Vail.
In the second varsity eight race, the Dragons won the silver medal with a time of 6:55.894 in the Maria Papadakis boat. Northeastern won the race with a 6:48.746.
The Dragons varsity four reeled in the team's first silver medal of the day in the Sandra Lee Sheller boat, finishing with a 7:39.952. Northeastern won the race with a 7:34.289.
The day began with the first-ever third varsity eight race at CAAs with Drexel in the Marlene Buckley boat. Drexel finished third with a 7:13.721. Northeastern paced the competition with a 7:02.126 while Delaware came in second with a 7:08.375.
The CAA also gave out its season awards Sunday, of which the Dragons won four. Varsity eight 6-seat Jayme Batcher, 3-seat Bridget Pfeifer and coxswain Catherine Hamilton were name to the All-CAA Team. Senior varsity eight 2-seat Amanda Kleuser was named to the CAA All-Academic Team.
Drexel Crew will conclude its 2014-15 season as the men have their chance on Mercer Lake on May 29-31 at the IRA National Championships.
