Men's and Women's Crew with Succesful Outing in Frostbite Regatta

Philadelphia – Drexel Men's and Women's crew take five second place finishes during a successful outing on the Schuylkill River in the Frostbite Regatta.
The women's freshman/novice four with coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Caitlin Buser, Leigh Ann Loughery, Adrianna Moreno and bow Jackie Bend started things off by taking third in their race with a time of 8:18.04 behind only La Salle and West Virginia.
The men's freshman/novice four took sixth in their race when coxswain Carolina Torres, stroke Ryan McSpedon, Ross Morris, Peter Rampulla and bow Matt Whitworth recorded a time of 8:04.87.
The men's junior varsity eight recorded on of Drexel's best finishes on the day when coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Liam O'Neill, Nicholas Buyse, Dylan Siegfried, Michael Golden, Kevin Rorabaugh, Peter Schmidt, Michael Faust and bow Peter Eyrich crossed the line in 6:12.62 earning second place and defeating city rivals La Salle and Saint Joseph's.
In perhaps one of the most dominating performances of the day, Drexel's women's freshmen/novice eight with coxswain Dana Piccoli, stroke Shannon O'Donnell, Colleen Delaney, Kayla Wroblesky, Sloane Spurlock, Emily Fluharty, Alyssa Leahy, Sarah Mackenzie and bow Elizabeth Daugherty earned a first place finish with a time of 7:11.70, besting second place Rochester by more than 22 seconds.
In yet another impressive Drexel finish the men's freshman/novice eight with coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, Matt Ryan, Marcus DeMarici, Brent Basso, Steve Miner, John Pieper and bow Andrew Pope Starnes crossed the line in 6:05.78, just under three seconds behind Delaware on their way to a second place finish.
The women's varsity four B with coxswain Mary Beth Geyer, stroke Jennifer Everett, Lillian Reed, Emily Barth and bow Victoria Bannister finished sixth in their race with a time of 8:56.77. In the next event, the women's varsity four A with coxswain Caitlin Meehan, stroke Amanda Dargay, Brogan Piecara, Mairin McKinlay and bow Kathie Chengtook took third, recording a time of 7:46.80.
The men's varsity four A also took third place when coxswain Justin Malley, bow Gregg Francis, Martin Khait, Gregory Pierce and bow Ernesto Del Valle crossed the line in a time of 6:35.14. The men's varsity four B with coxswain Matthew Weston, stroke Paul Wisniowski, Scott Nordsiek, John Luciani III and bow Adam Cordi again recorded a third place finish for the Dragons with a time of 7:12.19.
In the final events of the day, the varsity eights showed well beginning with the women's varsity eight B with coxswain Alexandra Paulin, stroke Natasha Martines, Brooke Wertan, Colleen Owens, Elise Panacek, Jillian Skovran, Chloe Swansen, Asiya Mahumud and bow Brianna Simmers taking second in their race with a time of 7:16.51. The women's varsity eight A also recorded a second place finish as coxswain Mary Catherine Khella, stroke Liz Bratton, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Juliana DeMarici, Taylor Mondak, Alexa Antonioli, Casondra Clawson, and bow Mollie Cusack crossed the line in 6:52.31, less than one second behind cross-city rival Temple.
The men's varsity eight boat with coxswain Steve Matyas, stroke Kurt Linton, Lorenzo Albala, Aleksander Radovic, William Masters, Brian Timlin, Jacob Sloan, Anthony Fitipaldi and bow Kyle Fabel capped the day with a fourth place finish recording a time of 6:11.62.
