Philadelphia - Richmond visits 14th-ranked Drexel in a non-conference field hockey game Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Dragons' Buckley Field. Richmond is 2-2 on the season but the Spiders have won their last two games including a 4-1 victory at Hofstra. The Dragons will put their undefeated 3-0 mark on the line against Richmond who received votes in the latest NFHCA national poll.
Susan Ciufo and Christina Mastropaolo have led the Drexel offense through the first three games of the season. The juniors are tied for the team lead in points with nine. Ciufo had the nation's longest point-scoring streak snapped in the Dragons' 4-3 overtime win over No. 10 Duke but had three goals in Drexel's season-opening win at Rutgers. Mastropaolo had two goals and an assist in Drexel's 4-1 win victory over La Salle before recording a goal and an assist against Duke. Midfielder Carolina Gibernau is the reigning Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week after scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals against the Blue Devils. The two-time First Team All-Conference pick is third on the team with five points this season.
Both of Richmond's losses have come to teams ranked in the NFHCA top 20. The Spiders dropped a one-goal decision to American before a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Indiana. Sarah Blythe-Wood leads the team with 12 points on the season. The senior back has five goals this season while Margaret Ellis is second on the team with five points despite coming off the bench in all four contests.
