Dragons Head to Virginia for Two Key Conference Matchups

The 12th-ranked Drexel field hockey team will face a tough test on the road as the Dragons challenge No. 16 Old Dominion on Friday, Oct. 9 before facing William & Mary on Sunday, Oct. 11. The Lady Monarchs are the Colonial Athletic Association preseason favorites for the 2009 season after they knocked off the Dragons in the CAA Championship semifinal a season ago. Old Dominion will enter the game with a 6-6 overall mark and a 2-1 record in conference play while William & Mary currently stands at 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the CAA. Drexel is currently 9-2 overall and 2-1 in league action.
Drexel is led up front by juniors Susan Ciufo and Christina Mastropaolo. The two each have 14 goals and six assists this season and are tied for the lead in goals and points in the CAA and are ranked among the top 10 nationally in goals. Carolina Gibernau a two-time All-CAA midfielder has contributed four goals and five assists in 2009.
Old Dominion's Hanna Warren is tied with Ciufo and Mastropaolo for first in the CAA with six assists this season while teammates Loran Hatch and Katie Ueberroth each have five assists. Ueberroth and Kathryn Kirk are tied for the team lead in goals with five. William & Mary features a balanced scoring attack with four players tied for the team lead with three goals each. Leah Zamesnik has a team-high total of 10 points on three goals and four assists for the Tribe.
