Dragons Host Lafayette in Final Non-Conference Test of the Season

Philadelphia - Drexel field hockey will take on Lafayette in the Dragons' final non-conference game of the 2009 season. The game will be played at Buckley Field on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m. Drexel enters the game ranked 11th in the nation and sports a 13-2 overall mark while the Leopards are 11-4 this season. Lafayette features one of the top defenses in the nation ranking fifth in goals against average as the Leopards have allowed less than one goal per game. Drexel's offense is ranked sixth in scoring in the nation and has not been held to less than two goals this season.
Christina Mastropaolo picked up her second straight Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week award after breaking three Drexel single-season records last week. She now holds the school mark for goals (21), points (49) and game-winning goals (7). She is currently second in the nation in goals per game with 1.40 and third in points per game with 3.27. Classmate Susan Ciufo is not far behind as the junior is ranked 10th in points per game with 2.73 and 11th in goals per game with 1.13. Two-time First Team All-CAA midfielder Carolina Gibernau's record-tying three assists in Drexel's last game, a 5-2 win over Villanova, gave her 10 for the season, just two off her own school single-season mark she set last season.
Lafayette is riding a three-game winning streak in which the Leopards have not allowed a goal. The team dropped West Chester and Lehigh by 3-0 scores before a 2-0 victory over Rutgers. Deanna DiCroce has been leading the way offensively with 11 goals, including six game-winners. Kelsey Andersen has been a defensive star in the cage for Lafayette ranking in the top 10 nationally in both goals against average (0.91) and save percentage (.781).
