PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel field hockey team opened its season in dominating fashion as it defeated Bucknell, 4-0 at Buckley Field. Following the win, the Dragons received their 20th victory against the Bison and its 14th straight win in the series.
The Dragons came ready to play in the first quarter. In the fourth minute, Drexel earned its first corner of the contest. Natali Foster and Tina Rawa helped as Pien Elsen fired a shot from the top of the circle past the Bison goalkeeper for the first goal of her career. A few minutes later, Foster was sent a perfect pass up the right side from Eline Di Leva to extend the lead. Kenzie Lever buried her rebound to the far bottom corner of the cage for DU's third goal of the afternoon.
In the next period, Delfi Cabral obtained her first goal with seven minutes remaining in the half. Drexel's defense held the Bison to four shots in the opening 30 minutes as Anna Getty earned a defensive save to keep BU off the board.
Drexel and Bucknell were unable to add to the score in the second half. In the cage, graduate student, Megan Hadfield secured the shutout victory.
DUFH remains at home as it hosts Philly rival, La Salle, on Sunday from Buckley Field. Game time is scheduled for noon.
