WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Drexel softball team defeated the Monmouth Hawks in the series finale on Sunday, 10-4.

Ashley Errico played the best game of her junior year on Sunday. The shortstop went 4-for-5 with five RBIs and one run scored. The performance was just one hit short of the program record.
Izzy Alamillo went 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and a run scored in the series finale.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel did not waste any time getting started. In the first inning, Errico hit a single to right field and scored Alamillo on the play.
In the bottom of the second, Monmouth scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. But it was basically all Drexel from that point on. In the fourth inning. Errico singled and scored both Lana Mooney and Grace Abbonizio to tie the game at three.
Then, in the fifth, Mooney singled to right field and Kylee Guerrera scored on the play. A few batters later, Errico singled down the left field line and two crossed the plate again. Mooney and Abbonizio were the runners who crossed home plate. Lastly in the fifth, Mia Garza hit a double that scored Errico and Lily Meuninck.
Drexel scored two more insurance runs in the sixth. The first came by way of a single to centerfield. Guerrera scored on the play. Then, the Dragons scored their 10th run of the game on an RBI groundout to third base by Mooney. The play scored Abbonizio.
Monmouth scored one run in the bottom of the sixth on a double down the left field line. That is all the team could do as the Drexel defense and pitching shut the door.
