PHILADELPHIA – No. 18-ranked Ebed Jarrell won via fall in his first match in a month, but the Drexel wrestling team fell 23-15 to Navy at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Saturday evening. The Dragons (6-7, 2-3 Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Association) won a total of four bouts on the night.
The Midshipmen (6-4, 3-1 EIWA) jumped out to a 14-0 lead after wins at 125, 133 and 141 pounds, but Drexel won four straight to take a 15-14 edge.
Nick Widmann put a jolt in the match with a 6-4 win over Jon Park in sudden victory. The 149-pound bout was tied at 2-2 after the opening period. A scoreless second gave way to the third, where Widmann started on top and turned Park for two near fall points, but Park knotted the score with a reversal. In the overtime period, Widmann locked in a cradle on Park for the decisive takedown.

Parker Kropman started hot at 157 pounds then held on for an 8-6 decision against Jared Prince. Kropman scored a pair of takedowns in the first then added three more points in the second period on an escape and his third takedown of the night. Leading 7-1, the redshirt-junior withstood a frantic push from Prince in the third.
Jarrell's return from injury and subsequent pin electrified the DAC and pulled the Dragons to within two at 14-12. The East Greenwich, R.I. native stuck Brian Case in 4:41 for his 70th-career victory and 20th-career fall.
An upset victory by Michael O'Malley at 174 pounds pushed Drexel ahead 15-14. Squaring off with 19th-ranked Spencer Carey, O'Malley surged late in the second period to take control of the bout. Trailing 4-3, O'Malley took down the Navy 174-pounder for two points then reaped four near fall points to close out the period. The tempo of the match hit another gear in the third period, where Carey took down O'Malley three times, but the redshirt-freshman escaped with the 14-11 decision victory.
The Mids regained control of the match for good with a decision victory at 184 pounds.
A single point decided the 197-pound match between a pair of ranked grapplers. No. 21 Jacob Koser escaped in the second period then avoided No. 31 Bryan McLaughlin, and a critical second stall warning, in the third period for the 1-0 decision.
Seventeenth-ranked John Birchmeier concluded the dual with a 7-3 decision over Sean O'Malley.
Drexel returns to the mats on Friday for a home dual with Columbia at 7 p.m.
