Wrestling Drops EIWA Dual at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Drexel wrestling team fell 27-2 in a Sunday dual at fellow Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association member Bucknell. The Dragons fall to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the EIWA. The Bison improve to 6-3 with a 5-1 mark in conference duals.
Sunday's dual was tighter than the final score indicated with six bouts decided by three points or fewer, including the last four.
Antonio Mininno started Drexel on the right foot with a 5-4 decision over Brandon Seidman at 125 pounds in the opening match, but Bucknell seized control of the across the final nine weight classes.
Darren Miller leveled the team score with a 7-2 decision win against Chase Shields at 133 pounds. The 141-pound bout was decided by only three points with Tyler Williams dropping an 8-5 decision to David Campbell. Matt Kolonia added an 8-3 decision against Jared Donahue at 149 pounds.
Bucknell scored the lone bonus point of the day at 157 pounds, where Jaden Fisher topped 30th-ranked Parker Kropman by way of 14-2 major decision. The Bison entered the intermission with a 13-3 advantage.
On the other side of the break, Mike Manley fell 8-2 to Vincent Andreano at 165 pounds.
No. 27 Michael O'Malley lost by the finest of margins at 174 pounds, falling 3-2 to Mitch Hartman. Both teams were deducted one team point for unsportsmanlike conduct following the conclusion of the bout.
Kyle Inlander scored an 8-6 decision over Anthony Walters at 184 pounds.
The penultimate match of the day featured a pair of ranked grapplers in Bryan McLaughlin and Drew Phipps. Phipps got the better of his ranked counterpart in a 7-5 decision.
The heavyweight bout went into sudden victory, where Brandon Stokes topped Sean O'Malley, 5-3.
Drexel returns home to host Navy for Spirit Night on Feb. 1 at 4 p.m. Drexel student organizations in attendance compete for cash prizes, including the coveted mantle of most spirited group.
