Field Hockey Falls to Pacific in California Finale

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Drexel field hockey team (4-4) fell to the Pacific Tigers by a final of 6-1 on Sunday afternoon to close out the Dragons' three-game California trip with a 2-1 record.
Sophomore Megan Wiest continued her hot streak offensively, scoring the first goal on Sunday to give the Dragons the 1-0 lead 3:06 into the affair. The early goal came as the only time Drexel would hold a lead in the contest as the Tigers went on to score six unanswered. Wiest now has five goals in her last four games with a total of seven on the year to lead the squad.
Pacific evened the contest at 1-1 roughly halfway through the opening half when the Tigers converted a penalty corner.
With 5:25 left in the first half, the Tigers were awarded a penalty stroke that gave Pacific a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
The Tiger extended their lead to two goals about 11 minutes into the second half to make it 3-1. Over the next 11 minutes, Pacific added three more goals to take a 6-1 lead behind a hat trick by Marguerite van Wyk.
Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Gilchrist took the loss in the cage for the Dragons, making eight saves on the day.
Senior Jessica McCarthy led Drexel with four shots.
Drexel arrives back in Philadelphia early Monday morning for the start of the fall term and will now look towards hosting the Monmouth Hawks on Friday, September 23 at 6 p.m. from Buckley Field.
