Golf Picks up Second Straight Win to Begin the Fall

The Drexel golf team enjoyed its fall in the Empire State. The Dragons won the Tuxedo Autumn Invitational, giving them consecutive wins in New York to begin the fall. Drexel and Columbia each shot an 869 over 54 holes. However, the teams went to the score of the fifth golfer, which gave Drexel a win for the second time in six days. It was the first time the Dragons have ever opened the year with consecutive victories.
For the second straight week, the Dragons entered the final round trailing, but this time, Drexel was only one shot behind the hosts. Also for the second straight week, the Dragons had key contributions from all five of its players. Sophomore Adam Mistretta fired an even-par 71 in the final round to pace the Dragons. Yoseph Dance was just one shot behind him at 72 on Saturday. Sophomore Aaron Fricke and senior Chris Crawford carded a 73 and 74, respecively over the final 18 holes.
Crawford finished third overall individually. The Bensalem, Pa. product finished two-over-par over 54 holes. He was just four shots behind Noah Firestone of Monmouth, who was the medalist, and two shots out of second place. Freshman Mike Cook of Berwyn was outstanding for the Dragons. In just his second college tournament, Cook tied for fifth overall at 217. He shot a three-under 68 in the second round on Friday. Yoseph Dance was also in the top 10 at 220. The junior shot a one-over-par 72 to close the round. Fricke had a 225, but his card gave the Dragons the win as Drexel's depth played a big factor in the win.
The Dragons will be in North Carolilna next Monday and Tuesday for the North Carolina State Invitational.
