POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- Drexel concluded play at the Old Dominion/OBX Invitational at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C. on Tuesday. The Dragons placed eighth overall. Drexel had another outstanding performance from Christopher Crawford in the tournament. He shot five-under-par over the three-day tournament to tie for second overall. The senior was the top finisher from any of the Colonial Athletic Association teams that participated in the tournament.
Crawford shot an even-par 71 in the first round on Sunday, but went five-under-par over the final 36 holes. His 67 on Monday was the best score of any participant. Crawford finished tied with Campbell's Gaston Bertinotti for second overall. The pair finished seven shots back of medalist Craig Hornberger of Campbell. Yoseph Dance ended the tournament with a 72 on the final day and was the Drexel's second best finisher at 220. Adam Mistretta and Brian Fischer each shot 225, while Mike Cook had a 233.
As a team, the Dragons shot 877 over the 54 holes. Campbell was the only team under par at 841 (-11). Campbell was 13 shots better than runner-up Bowling Green. Old Dominion, James Madison, Akron, Delaware and La Salle followed Bowling Green. The Dragons were just two shots behind La Salle and four behind Delaware.
Drexel concludes the fall portion of its schedule this weekend at the City Six championship. The Dragons and their city-rivals play at Merion on Saturday for city bragging rights. Last year, Drexel placed second, just two shots behind Penn. Crawford will be looking to repeat as medalist when play gets underway at the famed course in Ardmore, Pa. Merion has been a host of the U.S. Open on five occasions, including in 2013, when Justin Rose earned his first major victory.
