Women's Tennis Draws Towson in Opening Round of CAA Tournament

Philadelphia - After wrapping up their regular-season slate with a tough 4-3 loss to Delaware last Friday, the Dragons (8-7, 2-2 CAA) will head into the CAA Tournament as an upset-minded No. 9 seed. Drexel will face No. 8 Towson (14-6, 3-2 CAA). Drexel lost to Towson in a tight 4-3 match in Maryland in regular-season play on March 29. The Tigers have won five of seven heading into the tournament with losses to Delaware and Stony Brook. The teams will square off at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 21 at the tournament, hosted by Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.

In their regular-season meeting, the Dragons won in doubles play and took singles matches at first (Gozde Unkaya) and third (Zeynep Mafa) singles. Sonja Stosic fell in a tough three-set match at second singles, winning the second set against Encarni Lizana after dropping a first-set tiebreaker. Drexel won at first and second doubles to claim the additional team point.

The Dragons advanced from the first round in each of the last two years, with a win over George Mason last season and a win over Hofstra in 2009. Drexel would face the top seed William & Mary Tribe on Friday with a win over Towson.
