Philadelphia – Drexel’s Susan Ciufo was selected as the most valuable player of the 14-member squad that honors the best Division I field hockey players in Philadelphia during the 2008 season. She was joined on the All-Philadelphia team by fellow Drexel players Carolina Gibernau, Colleen McAndrew and Kim Tunell. Head coaches of Philadelphia schools voted for the top 16 players from other city teams, ranking the top three players for the MVP award. The 14 selections for the 2008 All-Philadelphia Team were all unanimously chosen.

Ciufo was the leading scorer among all players from Philadelphia-area schools as she broke the Drexel single-season record with 47 points on 19 goals and nine assists. She led the Dragons to a 16-4 record and was the only player in Division I to record at least one point in all of her team’s games. Ciufo was also selected Third Team All-America by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Gibernau, also a 2007 All-Philadelphia selection, shattered Drexel’s single-season record for assists with 12 as she became just the second Drexel player to be named First Team All-Region in two seasons. The junior midfielder was also the only Drexel player in history to be a First Team All-CAA. Gibernau totaled 26 points in 2008, including six in the Dragons’ final regular-season game on two goals and two assists against Towson.

McAndrew, a two-time Second Team All-CAA selection, was a four-year starter in goal. She ranked in the top 10 in the nation in save percentage and the top 20 in goals against average. She allowed just one goal per game in conference games this season. She leaves Drexel as the school’s leader in career wins and has the highest winning percentage of any goalie in Drexel history.

Tunell was a two-time CAA Player of the Week at back for the Dragons. The sophomore racked up two goals, including the game-winner, against William & Mary then recorded a pair of assists in Drexel’s first ever win over Old Dominion. She followed up that game with a career-high six points against Penn on two goals and two assists. Tunell had regular-season totals of eight goals and 10 assists.
