Dragons Drop Back-And-Forth Battle With Villanova, 11-10

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's lacrosse team was defeated by the Villanova Wildcats, 11-10, on Tuesday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Dragons pulled within one with one minute remaining but could not capitalize with an offensive possession to end the game.
Brendan Donnelly started in the cage for the Dragons and made 11 stops across 60 minutes of play.
Teddy Luthy followed up his six-assist game against Mercer with a hat trick on Tuesday afternoon.
Alec Tulio led the Dragons in the points column, tallying four on two goals and two assists.
Drexel was the first team to strike, scoring 40 seconds into the competition. Jack Joyner finished a pass from Witt Crawford to go on the board first. Villanova answered shortly after to tie the game at one.
Luthy scored his first goal of the game with 7:02 left on the clock. The Dragons then received another from Luthy with 3:29 remaining in the first to take a 3-1 lead over the Wildcats.
Villanova answered Drexel's quick lead with six unanswered goals to finish the first half and a majority of the second quarter. Drexel didn't score again until Luthy broke through with 3:07 left. Less than a minute later, Tulio pulled the Dragons within two. The first half ended with Villanova ahead, 7-5.
In the third quarter, Villanova scored first to make it a three-goal game with 11:21 left. Drexel's first goal of the half with 10:39 with a goal from Lincoln Wall and Caden Zadell. A minute later, the duo paired up again but reversed, as Zadell completed the play started by Wall. With 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Villanova took back the two-goal lead.
In the fourth quarter, Zadell scored his second goal of the game with just under 14 minutes remaining. The Wildcats, once again, were ahead by two goals after scoring at 13:10. Tulio answered back with 8:45 left, but was erased with another Nova goal with 4:15 remaining.
Down by two goals, Drexel scored its 10th goal of the game with 1:26 remaining in regulation. The Dragons then won the faceoff and called a timeout. Out of the timeout, Drexel managed to get a shot off, but it was saved and Villanova ran down the clock to finish the game ahead, 11-10.
Drexel returns to action on Saturday, March 7, against the Saint Joseph's Hawks at Sean Sweeney Field. Action against the Hawks is set for 7 p.m.
