HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.  – Max Semple scored five times as Drexel defeated Hofstra, 14-6, at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday in a pivotal Coastal Athletic Association contest. The Dragons are now 3-2 in league play after beating the Pride for the ninth straight time on their home field. Brendan Donnelly was solid in the cage for Drexel, making 13 stops, as the Dragons led from start to finish.
The Dragons (6-6) started the scoring almost immediately. Less than a minute into the game, Jack Joyner found Witt Crawford who scored his 20th of the season. Five minutes later, Joyner was at it again, this time netting an unassisted score. It took just 65 seconds for Drexel to take a three goal lead. This time it was Conor Hooley finding freshman Owen Knight to make it 3-0. The Pride got on the board late in the first when Trevor Natalie beat Donnelly, but Semple closed the first and started the second with goals, increasing Drexel's lead to 5-1.

Hofstra was never able to get the lead under three after the Dragons' first half offensive outburst. The Dragons used another run, this time of four straight goals at the end of the half and through the beginning of the third to put the game away.

Semple scored five goals on just seven shots and now has 118 in his career. That is just one behind Cole Shafer for seventh place on Drexel's career list. Joyner handed out three assists to go with his goal. Crawford and Hooley each finished with three points, while Gavin Kelly found the back of the net twice on Saturday.

Despite the outcome, the Pride outshot Drexel, 42-34. The Dragons were dominant on face-offs, winning 16 of their 24. Aidan Shortley was 14-for-22 on draws and corralled 12 ground balls to lead the team.

The Dragons close out the home portion of their schedule next Saturday at Vidas Field. Drexel will host Stony Brook on Senior Day beginning at noon.
