Dragons End CAA Championships in Sixth Place

SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – Drexel's 2024 golf season came to an end Tuesday afternoon on Saint Helena Island. The Dragons finished sixth at the CAA Championships played at the Cotton Dike Course on Dataw Island.
Griffin Mitchell finished his season on a high note. The junior fired a 4-under 68 to lead the team. His 68 tied for the fourth best score of the third round. Overall, Mitchell placed in a tie for 10th place. Oscar Maxfield and Caleb Taylor each had a 76, while Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa and Drue Nicholas ended their seasons with scores of 77. For Maxfield and Nyamukondiwa, it was their last appearance in the Blue and Gold, as each student-athlete will graduate this spring.
Charleston won the championship by shooting a tournament-record 35-under par in the 54-hole tournament. It was the Cougars seventh win in the last 10 seasons.Kieron van Wyk and Zach Reuland tied the tournament 54-hole record of 13-under previously set by Old Dominion's Geoff Harris in 2003 and matched by Reuland in 2021 and van Wyk in 2022; they were declared co-medalists of the event with both players on the team earning the automatic qualifier to NCAA Regionals.
Elon closed the tournament seven shots off Charleston's team score, with UNCW 11 shots back of the lead. Campbell, Delaware, and Drexel followed, with Towson climbing two spots to seventh on the tournament's final day. William & Mary, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, and Hofstra rounded out the field. .
