PHILADELPHIA – Drexel Rowing has added Corlis Gross as an assistant coach, Director of Rowing Paul Savell announced Wednesday. Gross, who was a two-time NCAA champion at Brown, mostly recently served as an assistant coach at Purdue.
"We are excited to welcome Corlis to the Drexel Rowing staff," Savell said. "As a four-time NCAA qualifier and two-time national champion, Corlis brings success and experience competing at the highest level in collegiate rowing. I have no doubt she will help Drexel Rowing continue its success."
Prior to joining Drexel, Gross coached the women's novice boats for Purdue for two seasons beginning in 2015. There the novice four won the gold medal at the Dad Vail Regatta in 2017, and Gross oversaw the junior varsity four that earned the bronze at the 2017 Dad Vail and the novice eight that took fifth in 2016. She also earned her master's in health and kinesiology while at Purdue. Before arriving at Purdue, Gross had four previous years of coaching experience at the club level on the East Coast.
Gross is an accomplished rower who competed for Brown where she was a two-time national champion and captained the team her senior year. Over the course of her career in which she was a four-time NCAA qualifier, Gross earned first-place finishes with the junior varsity eight at the NCAA Championships in 2008 and 2010 as well as first-place team finishes at NCAAs in 2007 and 2008. In 2010 as a senior, she earned CRCA Second Team All-Region honors. Following the conclusion of her undergraduate career, Gross won a gold medal at the Head of Charles Regatta in the alumnae eight in 2011 and in the club single in 2015.
