CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Drexel women's rowing team concluded a remarkable season Sunday with a second-place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships held on Cooper River. Drexel has finished second at CAAs in each of the last three seasons.
The Dragons came away with three silver medals on the morning in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four. Northeastern was crowned the conference champion for the fourth consecutive year. The Huskies led the way with 36 points overall, while the Dragons totaled 30.
Drexel's varsity eight took home the silver medal at CAAs, capping perhaps the best season in the boat's history. Fresh off of winning the boat's first ever Dad Vail gold medal and helping the Dragons to their first ever Dad Vail women's points title and fifth consecutive overall title, the top eight also won gold at the Kerr Cup and Kelly Cup as well as the women's title at the George Washington Invitational. On Sunday, the Cara Fry boat crossed the finish line in 6:46.284, 13 seconds behind Northeastern.
Also picking up silver medals were the second varsity eight and the varsity four. A day after taking home Dad Vail gold, the second varsity eight, racing in the Marlene Buckley II boat, took second with a time of 6:57.262, which was just over 13 seconds behind Northeastern. The four, which won the bronze at Dad Vail on Saturday, rowed to a second-place 7:45.767 Sunday in the Diane Corle, a time which was behind only Northeastern.
Following the event, Marina Forster, Nupur Parikh and Kendall Wenzke earned All-CAA honors. Paige's Propp was named to the CAA All-Academic team for the second year in a row.
