Box Score
Loretto, Pa. - After seeing his team's 1-0 lead vanish on a St. Francis (0-2) penalty kiick with just three minutes to play, junior Nate Baker lifted the Dragons (2-0) to victory with a blast from 18 yards in the final 32 seconds of the match. Drexel's 2-1 win was its second straight to start the season. Freshman Joe Sales gave the Dragons a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute with a breakaway goal.
Sales, who came into the match in the 17th minute of play took a through ball from Anthony Bafile, blowing past the defense to score his first career goal and give his team a 1-0 lead in the first half.
Drexel dominated offensive opportunities, outshooting the Red Flashes 18-9 and earning four corner kicks to St. Francis' one. Coming off his first shutout of the season, senior keeper Alex Reber registered eight stops in net to earn his second victory of the year.
St. Francis drew a foul in the penalty box with 3:10 on the clock and the Flashes' Daniel Moir converted the penalty kick to even the match at 1-1. But St. Francis' lead proved to be short-lived when Baker blasted his game-winner in the waning seconds.
Drexel returns to Philadelphia where it will play Soccer Six rival Saint Joseph's on Sept. 9 at 7:00 p.m. on the Hawks' Finnesey Field.
