No. 12 Drexel Avoids William & Mary Upset Bid, 2-1

Williamsburg, Va. - Drexel field hockey recovered from a second-half deficit to defeat William & Mary, 2-1, in a Colonial Athletic Association game. Juniors Susan Ciufo and Christina Mastropaolo scored for the Dragons who moved to 11-2 on the season and 4-1 in CAA play.
After a scoreless first half, the Tribe finally broke through just four and a half minutes into the second period as Rebecca Wagner cleaned up a rebound in front to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Drexel wasted little time responding as Ciufo took a Carolina Gibernau pass and scored just 42 seconds after the Tribe got on the scoreboard. Less than six minutes later, William & Mary goalie Carrie Thompson had a Drexel shot trickle through her legs though she was able to get a piece of the shot. The slowly crawled toward the goal line when Mastropaolo made a diving stab at the ball and poked it into the net for the game-winner.
Mastropaolo's goal gave her a conference-high 18 on the season. She is just one goal away from tying the Dragons' single-season record set by Pamie Zukowski and Susan Ciufo. Ciufo's goal gave her 15 on the season and 39 for her career.
Jenna Phillips made six saves in collecting her 11th win of the season in the cage. Thompson stopped nine Drexel shots. The Dragons held a 15-11 advantage in shots and a 10-7 edge in penalty corners.
