Philadelphia - The 16th-ranked Drexel Field Hockey Team dispatched Penn, 6-1, to complete a perfect 4-0 season against Philadelphia schools. Susan Ciufo and Kim Tunell each scored a pair of goals as the Dragons broke the school record for goals in a season with 51. The win propelled the Dragons to 12-3 (4-1 CAA) on the season.
The first half was fairly evenly played, though the Dragons got on the board first as Carolina Gibernau converted a Tunell pass to put Drexel on top. Penn responded with a Rachel Eng goal before Tunell put the Dragons ahead for good with a goal on a penalty corner with assists credited to Gibernau and Christina Mastropaolo.
The Dragons blew the game wide open as Ciufo scored a pair of goals just 23 seconds apart to extend her point-scoring streak to 15 games. The streak is the longest in school history and the CAA this season. Senior co-captain Amanda Kicera tacked on a goal as she deflected a Tunell shot into the cage. Tunell capped the scoring with a goal from a Gibernau pass. Tunell was recently named the CAA Player of the Week after totaling two goals and two assists in two games last week; she matched that total today for a career-high six points.
Colleen McAndrew made eight saves in goal for the Dragons while Penn goalie Alanna Butera made 14 stops. Drexel outshot the Quakers, 26-11, and earned 13 penalty corners to Penn's four.
The Dragons return to action next Friday with a key CAA road game at Northeastern at 2:00 p.m.
