Vidas Field
Vidas Field, located at the front of the Complex, serves as home to the Drexel Men's & Women's Soccer teams as well as the Men's & Women's Lacrosse teams. Vince Vidas, a legend both on and off the field, was a triple-sport athlete during his tenure as a Dragon, from 1955-1959. A three-year letter winner and two-time All-America selection in football, Vidas also competed on both the basketball and lacrosse teams for one season. Upon obtaining his Master's in electrical engineering in 1964 from his alma mater, Vidas went on to become the president and CEO of SEMCOR, Inc. The Drexel Hall of Fame inductee married Judy Weber, '56.
In the summer of 2015, Vidas field received a complete makeover, with a whole new surface, Shaw synthetic turf, installed. Similar to the predecessor, the field is laid with a rubber infill system. The following spring, Vidas played host to the CAA Women's Lacrosse Championships, as well as a practice location for the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships, held at Lincoln Financial Park.
Artwork has been upgraded, with a new navy border outlining the field with accompanying Dragon heads on either side. The playing surface wasn't the only upgrade that the field saw, however. A two-floor press box was constructed to replace the temporary structure for working media. Equipped with air conditioning and a new sound system, the press box not only provided room for working media, radio, and VIPs to view home events, but also provided an aesthetically pleasing addition to the field.
In addition to the four intercollegiate sports, Vidas field also serves as a space for intramurals, club sports, and other external rentals to operate year round.
Upon his passing in 2017, Vidas' legacy will be one that embodies the pillars of Drexel Athletics, generating pride and excellence for future generations of Dragons for years to come.
