Men's Rowing Wins Bergen Cup on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 15 Drexel men's rowing team won three races, including the V8+ as the Dragons celebrated Senior Day by taking home the Bergen Cup on Saturday.
Starting the day, Drexel honored Sean Blair, Billy Ernst, Theo Girard, John Karen, Alex Manolarakis, Jake Miller and Brendan Wilhelm for their contributions to the team throughout their careers.
Leading the way was DU's top boat as Sam DeSilva (coxswain), Karen (stroke), Nikola Loncar, Josh Diggons, Damian Lis, James Schmidt, Andrew Manns, Jack Anderson and Andrei Malis (bow) rowed Lois Krall III to a time of 5:23.0, three seconds ahead of La Salle. It was the second consecutive week and third time in the last four outings the V8+ has claimed gold.
Also standing atop the podium was the V4+, which turned in a 1-2 finish. The "A" boat of Emma Houghton (coxswain), John Little (stroke), Joe Glenn, Michael Pazderski and Nick Perks (bow) took Go Roe across the finish line in 6:28.0. The "B" squad competed in Dan Lyons with Matt Sherman (coxswain), Maxwell Frey (stroke), Wilhelm, Malcolm Grauley and Carter Hubbard (bow) clocking a time of 6:36.0.
Rounding out the top performances for Drexel was the 3V8+. Alex Dragovits (coxswain), Blair (stroke), Dearon Tufankjian, Richmond Coney, Nick Foley, Jack Hutchison, Daniel Yurcisin, Thomas Gola and Sean Williams (bow) sent Sandra Sheller II to a first place time of 5:41.0.
DU now readies to defend its title at the 84th Dad Vail Regatta May 12-13 on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. The Dragons won the men's point title and the overall points title last season.
