Penn Outlasts Drexel In Fourth Quarter Battle

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel picked up its third loss of the year in a one-point battle with Penn on Wednesday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Dragons and the Quakers traded leads the entire game but a 4-0 run in the fourth quarter gave Penn the advantage they needed to secure a 9-8 victory. The Dragons drop to an even 3-3 while giving the Quakers their second win of the year.
The Dragons saw scores from six different players, led by Hayleigh Simpson and Karson Harris who each recorded a pair of goals. Corinne Bednarik, Lucy Schneidereith, Colleen Grady and Allison Drake each accounted for a solo goal while Bednarik added a team-high two assists.

First Quarter – Drexel 2, Penn 2
The Dragons and the Quakers spent the entire first quarter trading goals. Despite Penn finding success first, Harris provided the first score for DU in the seventh minute, tying the game at one. Drexel found themselves in a similar situation down one with two minutes remaining when Simpson and Bednarik paired up to tie the game for a second time.
Second Quarter – Drexel 6, Penn 5
Bednarik gave Drexel its first lead of the day in the opening minutes, sinking the Dragons first free position goal. Penn answered back with two goals, but Drexel answered back with a pair of its own. Harris added her second of the day on an unassisted attempt followed by another beautiful feed from Bednarik, this time to Drake for the goal. Grady gave the Dragons the advantage heading into the half with a goal on a man-up opportunity.
Third Quarter – Drexel 8, Penn 5
The Dragons commanded the third quarter, holding the Quakers scoreless while piling on two more goals. Simpson and Schneidereith tabbed their ninth goals of the season with two unassisted scores for the Dragons.
Fourth Quarter – Drexel 8, Penn 9
Penn found its groove in the fourth quarter, coming back from a three-goal deficit to take a one goal victory on four unanswered goals.
