VILLANOVA, Pa. – Drexel women's tennis wrapped up its appearance at the Villanova Invitational on Sunday morning. The Dragons came up just a match short against conference rival, Delaware, 5-4.

The Blue Hens did not have enough players to compete in the third-seeded match. Tara Veluvolu and Aida Garcia Mendez were the Dragons who were supposed to play in that slot and received a win by default. In the second-seeded doubles match, Lori Lemongo and Mya Fuentes put up a fight. The duo lost their match 7-6 but took the match to an eight-point tiebreaker.

In singles play, Pauline Kharkover represented the Dragons in the No. 6 match and received a default win. The Dragons were also able to win the fourth- and fifth-seeded matches. Isabel Cabrerizo made quick work of her opponent with identical 6-3 sets. Garcia Mendez needed three sets to down her opponent. The junior won the first set, 6-3, and dropped the second set, 6-2. In the third set, Garcia Mendez won the match, 10-7.
"We are excited to start the fall at the Villanova Invitational and get the chance to play again in th efall season," head coach Anne Marie Devlin said. "There were some tough matches against good local opponents, but I have a lot of hope for the season after what we saw this weekend."
The Dragons will travel to Penn to participate in the prestigious Cissie Leary Invitational. The three-day tournament will begin on Friday, September 24, and end on Sunday, September 26.
