Williams Wins 141-Pound Bracket at Messiah Open

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Tyler Williams won five times en route to a 141-pound title at the Messiah Open. Williams was dominant on Saturday with four bonus-point wins, including a pair of falls. On top of Williams' championship, five more Dragons added top-eight finishes.

Tyler Williams
Williams opened the day with a quick pin in the opening round, winning in just 1:21. He followed with a 14-3 major decision of Franklin & Marshall's Sean Coakley.

Now in the quarterfinals, Williams had his closest match of the day, a 10-6 decision of Nic Mele of TCNJ. The true freshman posted a 15-3 major decision against West Chester's Jake Taylor to reach the finals.

Williams added a second pin in the championship bout, ending the match with TCNJ's Anthony Rua in 4:34.

Chandler Olson
Olson made the 133-pound finals before medical forfeiting and settling for second. He opened with a 16-1 technical fall against Messiah's Hunter Rinehart. After advancing via medical forfeit in the quarters, he topped Domenic Difrancescanton in a high-scoring 15-10 decision.

Connor Trowbridge
Trowbridge won twice for a seventh-place finish at 149 pounds. He dropped a 7-2 decision in his first match but followed with a pin against Jonah Schechtman and a major decision over Ian McIlhenny. Trowbridge lost by major decision in his next match but ended the day with a 6-5 decision over teammate Jacob Junk in the seventh-place match.

Joseph Timm
Timm was a three-time winner and seventh-place finisher at heavyweight.

Timm dropped a 2-0 decision to start the day before advancing twice by medical forfeit. He lost to Jacob Estevez by pin before another medical forfeit in the seventh-place bout.

Jacob Junk
Junk rallied from a major decision loss with a pin of Spencer Robinson early in the first period of his next match. He advanced by medical forfeit before back-to-back decision losses and an eighth-place finish at 149 pounds.
