Dragon Dispatches: Rowing Wins Gold at Reading Amateur Regatta

READING, England – The Drexel women's varsity eight won the Women's Senior 8 A division Sunday to cap competition at the Reading Amateur Regatta on the Thames. The Dragons' second varsity eight also won a race Saturday in the Women's Senior 8 A division.

The Dragons' top eight opened racing Sunday on the 1,000-meter Thames course with a 2 1/2 length victory over Wallingford Rowing Club (UK). In the semifinals the Dragons outlasted Auriol Kensington (UK) by 1 1/4 lengths before holding off Edinburg University by a length to claim the gold medal. On Saturday, the Dragons second varsity eight, racing in the top division, defeated Auriol Kensington (UK) by two lengths. Saturday's racing was from 1,500 meters.

Reading serves as a tune-up for the Henley Women's Regatta, which begins Friday on the Thames. Stay tuned for more on the Dragons' trip and for information on their upcoming races at Henley.
