Men's Soccer Schedule Set for 2017

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's soccer team announced its 2017 fall schedule on Friday morning as the Dragons are just over a month away from their first preseason game of the year. Drexel will have nine home games at Vidas Field in 2017 including a pair of three-game homestands as the Dragons look to return to the CAA Championships in November.
Following exhibitions against Villanova, Binghamton and Hartwick – the first two of those at home – the Dragons open the regular season on Aug. 25 when they host St. John's. Last year, the two teams met in Queens to open the year with the result being a scoreless draw, thanks in part to a dramatic defensive save by then-freshman Daniel Klemm making his collegiate debut.
That will be the team's only game in August, as the Dragons next take the first on Sept. 1 against Bowling Green. The Colonial Athletic Association opener concludes the three-game homestand to open the year, as Drexel welcomes William & Mary in to University City on Sept. 9. All three games to open the year will be played at 7:00 p.m.
Drexel's first road trip of the year will also be its longest, as the Dragons head to the Pacific Northwest to take on perennial power Washington on Sept. 14 and Seattle on Sept. 17. The tilt with the Huskies will take place at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time, with an afternoon game against Seattle at 4:00 p.m. Eastern.
The annual University City Derby will be a home contest for the Dragons in 2017 as the Penn Quakers make the short trip to Vidas on Sept. 23. That will be the first of three games for Drexel against Soccer Six opponents, though it will not officially count towards the team's Soccer Six standings.
CAA play kicks off in earnest on Sept. 27 when Drexel heads down I-95 to do battle with rival Delaware at 7:00 p.m. That starts a stretch where the Dragons will play five of six games within the CAA, the lone exception being the official Soccer Six opener at Temple on Oct. 3. The Dragons defeated Temple 3-2 in overtime last year at Vidas Field to earn a split in Soccer Six contests. Drexel's CAA home opener will come just prior to that, against Northeastern on Sept. 30. That game will also serve as the team's Alumni Day.
After a visit to UNCW on Oct. 7, the Dragons open their second three-game homestand of the fall on Oct. 11 against Hofstra, with matchups against the College of Charleston and Lehigh to follow. The team makes a second trip to North Carolina on Oct. 21 when it visits Elon, then returns home one final time in 2017 for a Senior Day matchup against La Salle on Oct. 24.
Visits to James Madison and Princeton wrap up the regular season before CAA Championships open at a site to be determined on Nov. 4, with the championship weekend taking place Nov. 10-12.
