Philadelphia – Drexel women's soccer head coach Ray Goon announced the signing of seven student-athletes for the fall 2017 season. Raenah Campbell, Abby Corrato, Maggie Daeche, Gwyn Godin, Melissa Lyon, Shannon Riordan and Shea Tomlinson recently declared their intent to join the Dragons as freshmen this coming fall season. This new group of talented student-athletes will help the Dragons as they look to improve upon their 2016 season in which they reached the CAA Championship Finals.
"We eagerly await the upcoming 2017 season as the team continues to prepare to challenge once again for the CAA Championship. Reaching the CAA Finals this past season was a fantastic achievement and an invaluable learning experience," said Goon. "The returning members of our program are very focused on doing everything necessary to take that next step and the addition of our incoming freshmen will help make us even more formidable. The strong character of each one of these young ladies will help them immediately fit right in to our program. We are very excited about the potential that Raenah, Abby, Maggie, Gwyn, Melissa, Shannon and Shea will bring to team. They are amazing young student-athletes that will play significant roles in our team's development and impact Drexel University overall."
Corrato, from Marlton, N.J., was a four-year varsity starter and senior captain at Cherokee High School where she received All-Conference honors. A tenacious defender with experience playing in the back and midfield, Corrato will bring versatility to the program and the ability to fill many positional roles. Her club background with PDA includes appearances at the NPL National Finals in 2014 and Regional Finals in 2015. She is currently a member of the PDA ECNL team and also represented the New Jersey Olympic Development Program as well. A member of the National Honor Society, Corrato plans to major in engineering at Drexel.
Daeche, from Langhorne, Pa., is an established leader as a center back on both her high school and club teams. She was a three-year captain at Neshaminy High School after helping her team win the league, district and PIAA AAA State Championship her freshman season. As a senior, Daeche earned All-State and All-Region honors as well as being named the Philadelphia Inquirer 2016 Player of the Year. She plays for the three-time US Youth Soccer National Finalist and 2016 National Champion YMS Xplosion and was named to the USYS Best XI at 2013 and 2016 National Championships. Daeche is a National Honor Society member and plans to major in health sciences at Drexel.
Godin, from Natick, Ma, brings a combination of both offensive and defensive talent that will help elevate the Dragons in every facet of the game. She has high level experience at every outfield position, having played everywhere except GK for her Natick High School team which finished at the top of their conference and section in each of her four seasons with the team. As a senior captain, Godin received All-Eastern Mass and All-State honors. She currently plays club soccer for FC Stars of Mass ECNL but was also a long-time member of the Boston Breakers/FC Boston-Scorpions ECNL program. A member of the National Honor Society, Godin plans to major in engineering.
