VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Drexel women's soccer team defeated Villanova on the road, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon. Shaelyn McCarty, Kiera Hennessy, and Vanessa Kara were each credited with goals in the Dragons' winning effort.
The Dragons got on the board early as McCarty found a corner kick from Kylie Strong in the 7th minute and put it in the net. The Drexel defense would maintain this 1-0 advantage into halftime and through a good portion of the second half.
Drexel was able to extend its lead in the 71st minute, as Hennessy connected on a corner kick, this time from Joanna Seca. The Dragons' final goal came from Kara, unassisted, with just over 12 minutes left in regulation and cemented a Drexel victory. The Wildcats were unable to overcome the deficit Drexel had created which allowed the Dragons to walk away with their second win of the season.
The Dragons outshot the Wildcats, 18-10. Junior goalkeeper Christiana Ogunsami totaled six saves on the outing, while Villanova's Emmalee Meyer tallied seven.
Drexel will return to action on Thursday night as it will host La Salle in its home opener at Vidas Field at 7 p.m.
