HATFIELD, Mass. – The Drexel men's squash team jumped up three spots in the most recent Dunlop Men's College Squash Association Team Rankings which saw the Dragons move to No. 6 in the country for the second top-eight ranking in school history. The news was released via a College Squash Association press release on Friday morning.
The ranking comes as Drexel's highest in the program's six-year history.
This season the Dragons were previously ranked No. 9 in each of the Preseason, November 13 and November 27 polls.
Consistently ranked in the top 10 for the past two years, Drexel earned its first top-eight rank back on November 29, 2015 while they have been in the top 10 in all 14 polls since the beginning of the 2014-15 campaign.
Drexel ended 2016 on a four-match winning streak with victories over No. 24 Bowdoin, No. 6 Penn, No. 15 Middlebury and No. 19 Williams.
Drexel's win over then-No. 6 Penn back on November 30 came as the Dragons' first-ever victory against the Quakers. Senior Michael Thompson clinched the match for Drexel from the No. 4 position as he went on to be named the Harrow Sports College Squash Men's Player of the Week on December 7. The Vancouver native is currently the all-time winningest Drexel squash player and looks to be the first to reach 50 individual wins when the Dragons welcome the No. 4 Harvard Crimson to the Kline & Specter Squash Center on Friday, Jan. 13.
In the current December 11 men's poll, Trinity held at the No. 1 ranking followed by Yale and Rochester at No. 2 and 3. Harvard moved from the No. 5 to No. 4 while Columbia jumped from No. 7 to No. 5. With Drexel in the sixth spot, Penn followed behind in the No. 7, dropping from the No. 6, while St. Lawrence rounded out the top eight after falling from the No. 4 ranking.
