Five Dragons Place at Keystone Classic

PHILADELPHIA - Five Dragons placed in the top-five in their weight class at the 2016 Keystone Classic hosted by Penn on Sunday. Kevin Devoy Jr. earned a second place finish at 133, while Alex DeCiantis and Joey Goodhart finished in third place at 184 and 285 respectively. Zack Fuentes and Austin Rose round out the place winners for the Dragons, as they finished fourth on the day at 125 and 165.
Devoy started the day with a pin over Northwestern's Jason Ipsarides at 133 and then went on to earn a 5-4 decision over Penn State's No. 9 Jered Cortez to advance to the finals. There he fell to the eighth-ranked Dom Forys of Pittsburgh and finished the day in second place.
DeCiantis took his first two matches with decisions over Penn State's Devon Van Cura and Rider's Mike Fagg-Daves. In his third match he fell to Mitch Sliga of Northwestern, but then came back in the consolations to earn a technical fall over Eastern Michigan's Kayne MacCallum. Another decision over Fagg-Daves in the consolation finals gave the 184-pounder a third place finish.
At 285, Goodhart also earned a third place finish after winning his first two matches. He was sent to the wrestlebacks after falling to No. 9 Nick Nevills of Penn State, but then found his way to the consolation finals after defeating Eastern Michigan's Gage Hutchison, 4-1. With a 4-2 win over Harvard's Nickolas Gajdzik, Goodhart secured a third place finish among heavyweights.
Like DeCiantis and Goodhart, Fuentes also won his first two matches before falling in his third match of the day. He was sent to the consolations with a 4-2 decision from Penn State's No. 6 Nick Suriano. In his first wrestleback match he defeated Dalton Henderson to advance to the third place match, but there he fell to Pitt's LJ Bentley and finished the day in fourth place in the 125 bracket.
Rose earned a pin over VMI's Cade Kiely in his first match of the day and then went on to earn a 5-1 decision over Northwestern's Ben Sullivan. After falling to Penn State's No. 12 Vincenzo Joseph, he went on to take earn major decisions over Harvard's Rico Stormer and Penn's Joseph Velliquette in the consolation rounds. He advanced to the third place match after a disqualification from No. 17 Forrest Przybysz of Appalachian State, but then forfeited to Rider's No. 5 Chad Walsh there. With this, Rose finished in fourth place on the day at 165.
Tanner Shoap, Anthony Canfora, David Pearce, Matthew Cimato, Dakota Greene, Zachary Spira, Owen Brooks, Nick Elmer, Ebed Jarrell, and Joshua Murphy also competed for the Dragons at the annual tournament.
The Dragons will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3 when they will travel to Lincoln, Neb. to compete in the Nebraska Duals. There they will face EIWA opponent Princeton, as well as Nebraska and Michigan State.
