Afflerbach's Effort Not Enough in 1-0 Defeat at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Playing in his penultimate collegiate game, Drexel senior goalkeeper Tyler Afflerbach matched a career high with 10 saves on Saturday night at William & Mary, but it was not enough as the Dragons fell, 1-0. Afflerbach had three saves in the first half and seven more in the second, but the Tribe was able to break the Dragons' hearts with a goal in the 89th minute to capture the victory.
Antonio Bustamente scored the game's only goal with just 1:40 remaining in regulation. William Eskay provided the assist, driving upfield and dishing it off for the goal. That ended one of Afflerbach's most impressive efforts and prevented him from establishing a new career high, as his 10 saves had matched his previous best.
Drexel was outshot overall on the evening by a 28-3 margin as the Tribe peppered the Dragons' end with shots all night. Armin Efendic and Robert Smith put shots on goal for Drexel in the first half, but could not find the back of the net.
Afflerbach set his career high last season when he also stopped 10 William & Mary shots in the teams' meeting in University City.
The Dragons will conclude the 2016 season on Tuesday night when they visit the College of Charleston at 7:00 p.m.
