Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw with Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Philadelphia Soccer Six rival Saint Joseph's for the second-consecutive season, finishing their intra-city season with a 1-1-1 record. The Dragons outshot the Hawks 17-16, including a 12-8 edge in regulation, but could not light up the scoreboard as they earned their first draw of the year.
Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Jacob Jordan, making his third start, earned his first-career shutout with the draw. Jordan was called upon for six saves, including two in the second overtime period. Saint Joseph's managed six shots in the final 10 minutes, but Jordan kept the two on net from ending the contest.
Francisco Rodrigues da Palma and Colin McGlynn had four shots each to lead the Dragons. Da Palma had perhaps the best chance of the game early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, da Palma beat his defender with the ball and had a one-on-one with Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Bobby Edwards. By the time he cleared his defender, though, Edwards was on top of him, and da Palma was only able to get off a chip shot that bounded tantalizingly towards the goalmouth. Just as it was about to cross, however, a Hawks defender caught up to the play and tapped it off course and out of harm's way.
Both teams had looks in overtime, but neither was able to convert in the sudden death periods.
The Dragons will return to action on Saturday night when they visit James Madison at 7 p.m. for their second Colonial Athletic Association game.
