PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's soccer team fell to Buffalo on Sunday afternoon by a score of 1-0. The Dragons had a few opportunities late in the game, but were unable to overcome the deficit the Bulls had created.
The first half saw a tough defensive match-up as the game remained scoreless into the 43rd minute. It was then that Buffalo's Angel Hart sent a long kick from about 30 yards out past a diving Eve Badana and into the left corner of the net. This gave Buffalo a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime and would ultimately become the game-winner for the Bulls.
The Dragons attempted to retaliate in the second half as Civanni Moss sent a hard-kicked ball towards the goal in the 72nd minute. Buffalo's Laura Dougall dove to catch the ball and just managed to hold on and keep it out of the net, preventing the Dragons from evening the score.
With under six minutes to go and Drexel still trailing, the Dragons attempted three shots in a matter of less than three minutes but all of them missed the goal. In a final effort, sophomore Wilhelmina Hauch-Fausbøll took a header shot off a corner kick with just over two minutes remaining, but to no avail. Buffalo would hold on to secure a 1-0 victory and give Drexel its first loss of the season.
The Dragons outshot the Bulls on the game, 13-12. Badana tallied seven saves in the losing effort, while Buffalo's Dougall recorded six.
Drexel finishes opening weekend with a 1-1 record. Buffalo also concludes the weekend at 1-1 after a loss to Saint Joseph's on Friday.
The Dragons return to action on Friday, Aug. 28 as they travel to face Fairfield at 7:30 p.m.
