Men's Crew Sweeps Opener, Women Pick up Win on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel's men swept the day plus a win from the Dragons' women's freshmen eight capped the season opener on Saturday, March 14 on the Schuylkill River.
The men beat out La Salle and Villanova in three separate races. In the men's freshen eight, the Dragons' 'A' boat beat out the 'B' boat, 5:43.2 to 5:45.8. On the women's side, the Dragons earned a victory, posting a 6:42.0 time.
In the varsity eight races, Drexel's men outlasted Villanova by a second and a half, finishing with a 5:39.5. The women's varsity eight finished in third with a 6:18.3, less than three seconds behind winner Saint Joseph's.
Drexel's men picked up another victory in the second varsity eight when the 'B' boat beat out the 'A' boat, 5:29.0 to 5:35.8. In the women's race, the Dragons finished with a 6:27.5, behind winner Boston College's 6:24.06.
To close out the day, the women's third varsity eight finished between winner Boston College and Saint Joseph's, finished with a 6:43.3.
Drexel Crew returns to action next weekend as the men take on Penn and George Washington on the Schuylkill River on Saturday.
