Wrestling Falls to No. 10 Nebraska and Penn to Close Out Regular Season

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel wrestling team was defeated by No. 10 Nebraska on Saturday afternoon in the Dragons' final home dual of the year. Then as Drexel headed down 33rd Street to close out the regular season at Penn, the Quakers defeated the Dragons, 21-15.
In the first dual of the day, No. 10 Nebraska earned victories in the first three matches to take an early 14-0 lead. At 149, Matthew Cimato picked up the Dragons' only points of the dual as he defeated No. 20 Justin Arthur of Nebraska, 6-4. The Cornhuskers' No. 3 James Green earned a technical fall over Ryan O'Connor at 157 and then Austin Wilson followed by pinning Nick Elmer to extend Nebraska's advantage to 25-3. Stephen Loiseau took on Robert Kokesh, who is ranked first in the nation at 174 by Intermat, but lost by fall at 4:09. Nebraska finished out the dual with wins from No. 13 Aaron Studebaker and No. 17 Collin Jensen at 197 and 285 respectively to walk away with a 41-3 victory over the Dragons.
As Drexel headed down the street to face EIWA and city rival Penn in a fight for the Abner's cheesesteak trophy, Zack Fuentes started things off for the Dragons with a 4-0 victory over the Quakers' Jeremy Schwartz. Devoy followed by picking up a 7-3 decision over No. 18 Caleb Richardson to give Drexel a 6-0 lead. Jeff Canfora edged David Pearce, 5-2 in the 141 match to get the Quakers on the board and then the No. 8-ranked C.J. Cobb earned a major decision over Geoffrey Verallis at 149 to give Penn a 7-6 advantage. Noel Blanco took back the lead for Drexel with a 15-10 decision at 157, but one match later Penn's Raamiah Bethea regained the lead for the Quakers with a win at 165. Penn would go on to win the next three matches to solidify a victory. In a final effort, Joey Goodhart took the heavyweight match to overtime and picked up a win-by-fall over Penn's Patrik Garren at 8:17 to cut the final deficit to 21-15.
Drexel closes out the regular season with a 8-14 overall record and finish 5-3 in EIWA action. The Dragons return to the mat on March 6-7 as they compete in the EIWA Championships hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa.
