No. 8 Men's Squash Drops Friday Evening Match to No. 4 Rochester

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 8 Drexel men's squash team (5-2) fell to the No. 4 Rochester Yellowjackets (1-0) on Friday evening by a final of 8-1 from the Kline & Specter Squash Center in the Daskalakis Athletic Center at Drexel University. It comes as the first home loss for the Dragons, who are now 4-1 when hosting.
The Yellowjackets, playing in their first team match of the season, took the first five matches from Drexel to secure the victory.
Freshman Omar El Atmas remains undefeated after winning a thrilling five-game match in the No. 1 position for Drexel. El Atmas took down Rochester's Mario Yanez Tapia, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6, 7-11, 13-11, to move to 6-0 from the No. 1.
Freshman Bransten Ming played from the No. 3 spot for Drexel suffered his first loss of his young collegiate career. Rochester's Tomotaka Endo took the first, 11-9, while Ming grabbed the second, 11-9. Endo took a 2-1 advantage before Ming forced a fifth. The pair traded points late in the fifth, but Endo came away with the 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 9-11, 15-13 victory to move Ming to 6-1 individually.
Junior Michael Thompson also fell for the first time on the 2015-16 campaign, moving to 6-1 on the year. Thompson dropped his four-game match to Michaelangelo Bertocchi of the Yellowjackets, 11-9, 13-15, 12-10, 11-5.
The Drexel men will now travel to Annapolis, Md. to face Navy on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. before hosting Williams with the women's team on Sunday at the Kline & Specter Squash Center. Action begins at 10 a.m on Sunday.
