Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA - Needing a victory to clinch at least a share of the Philadelphia Soccer Six crown, the Drexel men's soccer team had to settle for a draw on Saturday evening at Saint Joseph's, playing to a scoreless draw. Tyler Afflerbach came up with four saves for the Dragons, who are now 2-2-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in official Soccer Six action. The Dragons can still claim a Soccer Six title pending other league results later this season.
The Dragons were outshot by the Hawks 18-11 on the evening. John Grosh and Nico Delgado led the way with three shots each. Two of Grosh's shots required saves from Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Bobby Edwards. Edwards finished the evening with four saves overall.
Drexel's defense put together another outstanding effort. Its third shutout of the season saw Drexel allow just three corner kicks and force three offsides calls on the Hawks. Saint Joseph's committed a whopping 22 fouls to just nine for the Dragons, with play getting chippy late as the Hawks picked up three yellow cards in the final 23 minutes of action.
The strong defensive effort and the opportunities presented by the Saint Joseph's fouls were not enough to help Drexel get on the board, however. Although they have allowed just three goals in five games this season, the Dragons have now gone 379:13 of game play without a goal since scoring in the first minute of action in their 1-0 win over Villanova on September 3.
Drexel will attempt to right the ship against one of the national semifinalists from last season in its next outing. The Dragons will fly across the country to Albuquerque, where they will take on New Mexico on Friday in the TLC Plumbing and Utility Invitational. Drexel will also do battle with CSU Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon as part of that tournament.
