RICHMOND, Va. - Just days after opening the Drexel men's soccer season with an overtime game-winner on Friday afternoon at Temple, senior midfielder Michele Pataia was recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday as one of the league's first Players of the Week for 2014. Pataia's second-career Player of the Week recognition comes after he notched the game-winner in the 93rd minute at Temple to give the Dragons a 1-0 victory in their season opener.
Pataia, out of Saint German, France, notched his sixth career goal with the score, which was assisted by Joaquin del Rosario. He led the team on Friday with five shots, and beat Temple goalkeeper Dan Scheck to the back post for the game-winner. The win was the first in a season-opener for Drexel since 2010.
Pataia shares the honor with Jamie Dell of UNCW, a senior midfielder who also had a game-winner in the Seahawks' season-opening victory over High Point.
The Dragons will return to action and open up their home schedule on Tuesday evening when they host Villanova. The game is the first official Philadelphia Soccer Six contest of the season, and the second of four matchups between the Dragons and local city rivals.
